Owensboro Catholic Cross Country

 Dear Parents and athletes,

It is that time of year again when the weather is warming up, the flowers bloom, and the last school bells are ringing. It’s also time to start thinking about the fall cross-country season. Champions in the fall are made in the summer. Cross-country is a sport that requires many miles and hours of training.

Those athletes that are interested in achieving their goals this fall must run over the summer. This running over the summer is to develop your “base”. Your base mileage should be up to 40 miles or more a week or 200 minutes a week. This means by the time you start practice in July, I can run you over 30 miles per week or 40 minutes a day. We work up to 50+ miles or 300 minutes a week before we taper off towards the end of the season so that you can “peak” at regional and state.

We give thanks to our Savior, Jesus Christ for our accomplishments, and to Him we give the glory.

There are boys and girls varsity teams as well as boys and girls middle school teams.

The middle school program will be open to boys and girls in grades 6-8 and will be coached by Coach Scott Lowe and Jacob Reid. The high school boys program will be coached by Coach Scott Lowe and the high school girls program will be coached by Coach Reid.

Important information and some dates:

  1. All athletes must have their physical before they can participate in practice. Physical forms are available in the athletic office.  The emergency medical release forms will be given at a later date.
  2. Boys – The first official practice is set for July 10th at 7:00 am at Moreland Park. All practices will take place at 7:00 am unless otherwise stated by the coach.

Girls – The first official practice is set for July 10th at 6:45 am at Yellow Creek Park.  All practices will take place at 6:45 am unless otherwise stated by the coact.

  1. There will be a running support group each morning at 7 am for the boys and 6:45 am for the girls, starting in June.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at the school: 270 684-3215 or at home: 270 929-8269.
