Welcome to the Owensboro Catholic K-3 Campus Counseling Page!
My name is Kim Bennett and I am the counselor for the OCS K-3 Campus. I am blessed to work with the students through guidance lessons focusing on social-emotional learning, small group counseling and individual counseling. Working with parents, teachers and administrators is also a vital component of the counseling program to best meet the needs of all students.
Classroom Guidance Lessons
Once a month, students visit my classroom for guidance lessons that focus on social-emotional learning, lasting 30 to 45 minutes. The curriculum for these lessons primarily comes from Counselor Keri LLC and the Second Step Program. Lessons cover a wide range of topics such as feelings and emotions, friendship, self-regulation and career exploration, just to name a few. Monthly activities could include whole group and small group games, crafts or worksheets.
Small Group Counseling
New to this school year is the addition of small group counseling. These sessions are three to four students working on specific topics such as how to be a good friend or grief issues. Groups will meet for four to six weeks. Parent permission is required to participate in a small group.
Some students can benefit from one-to-one counseling regarding academic, social or emotional challenges. Individual counseling is determined on a as needed basis.
