Keeping up with best practice, current research, and continuous improvement is key in selecting the curriculum that will be covered at OCMS. Teachers receive a minimum of 4 days of Professional Development during the summer, and other opportunities are planned throughout the school year to continuously search out and learn about the latest educational research and trends in best practice. Students receive instruction in the following curriculum areas: Religion, Science, math, Social Studies, Foreign Language, Literature, Spelling, English/Writing, Art, Music, Technology, Physical Education, Band.
Instruction is designed with the needs of each individual student in mind. Whole group, small group, and individual activities are planned throughout the day.
Teachers utilize technology to enhance and reinforce instruction through research-based programs like IXL and Accelerated Reader. Be sure to check the Daviess County Public Library if you cannot find a book in the school library.
Technology and Computers
Technology is an essential tool in the educational experience. At OCMS there are two staffed computer labs. Technology is utilized for both enrichment and remediation. Some of the technology used in our building includes: Portable iPad and Chromebook, High-Speed Internet connections in both labs and classrooms, Teacher iPads with projectors in each classroom, STEM Program, Access to Planbook.com and Inow to monitor student assignments and grades, Access to Planbook.com and Inow to monitor student assignments and grades, Accelerated Reader Program and IXL programs, STAR testing program in Reading, and Technology offered as a quarter class.
