Curriculum

Keeping up with best practices, current research, and continuous improvement is key in selecting the curriculum that will be covered at OCMS.  Teachers receive a minimum of 4 days of Professional Development during the summer, and other opportunities are planned throughout the school year to continuously search out and learn about the latest educational research and trends in best practice.

Students receive instruction in the following curriculum areas: Theology, Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, and English. Additional learning opportunities include instruction in Spanish, Art, Music, Technology, Physical Education, and Band.

The following accelerated classes are offered at Owensboro Catholic Middle School: Algebra I, Geometry, Science, English, and Spanish. OCMS also offers high school credit for those students who take Algebra I, Geometry, and Spanish.

Instruction is designed with the needs of each individual student in mind. Active teaching in the classroom is the primary focus with technology used as one tool to facilitate learning. Whole group, small group, and individual activities are planned to maximize student success.

Technology and Computers

Technology is an essential tool in the educational experience. It is utilized for both enrichment and remediation but does not serve as a substitute for active instruction in the classroom. At OCMS, students are provided with individual Chromebooks at no charge. The additional technology used in our building includes iPads, Interactive TVs, VR Headsets, and 3D Printers. Google Classroom is utilized to provide students with the information and material covered each day in class. Grades are posted in FACTS with access to both parents and students. OCMS also utilized GoGuardian to provide the safest learning environment possible for our students.
