OCMS Revised Uniform Policy for Girls 2016/17

After careful and prayerful consideration, we have made the decision to no longer allow uniform skirts at OCMS beginning August 2016.  Students will continue to be able to wear pants and shorts, and we are expanding our options to include capri pants.

We are announcing this decision as early as possible, before parents invest in new skirts for spring and fall.  We realize that this may not be a very popular decision; however, it is a decision that was made in consultation with the OCS Leadership Team, and it was not made lightly.

We have always felt that skirt length is an important issue, because we believe it is our responsibility to set the standard for modesty in our school building.  Over the past two school years, we have tried to clarify and enforce the uniform policy that is contained in our Student Handbook.

To that end, we have sent home emails reminding students and parents of the dress code.  We have also posted this information on our Facebook page.  Students found to be out of compliance have been given notices and told not to return to school in skirts that do not meet the length requirement.  And, yet, we continue to have students coming to school in skirts that are too short.

The monitoring and enforcement of this regulation has become burdensome and often results in negative interactions between faculty and students.  We desire to focus our energies in a far more positive way moving forward and are hopeful that this will be a step in the right direction.

Peace in Christ,
