Statement from the Diocese
Dear school families,
Over the past few days, school districts in the Commonwealth and across the country have been dealing with safety threats, leading to confusion and understandable concern. During this time, the Diocese of Owensboro Catholic Schools has had no substantiated threats towards our schools.
In cases of safety concerns, our diocesan schools work closely with the Kentucky Center for School Safety and all local law enforcement whenever potential threats arise. The protection of our children is always our top priority.
We live in a world where a 24-hour news cycle often highlights the negative, and social media allows information, accurate or not, to spread rapidly. We recommend that parents and guardians talk to their children about the importance of online safety and the consequences of sharing posts that may be threatening in nature.
Please remember that sharing concerns online can sometimes amplify misinformation or unnecessarily escalate situations. It’s crucial to report any safety concerns directly to your school or law enforcement if you become aware of a potential threat. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we continue to work together to ensure the safety of our kids.
