“Everything revolves around my faith.” – Mark Wahlberg

During this Lenten season, let’s take a closer look at our daily routines. What aspects are helping us grow spiritually, and what may be holding us back? How can we invite Jesus into our hearts to mend what’s broken and unravel what’s tangled? How can you commit to growing closer to Him every day through prayer, your thoughts and words, and your relationships with others?

OWENSBORO’S RANDY LANHAM AND HIS MUSICAL JOURNEY:

Hi!  I’m Randy Lanham and I have been playing old time mountain music, Irish jigs, bluegrass, folk, and country music for 40years.

My first 10 years as a musician was a learning process. I started by learning to play fiddle tunes and went on to play with others indifferent bands, playing throughout the local area. The following 10 years I toured as a professional musician playing with country artists Clay Walker, Wade Hayes, Tracy Lawrence, and Tanya Tucker. I was so blessed to play on TV shows like The Tonight Show, CNN, CMT, Austin City Limits, and many times on the Grand Ole Opry. And, I played on some major tours with George Strait, Alan Jackson, and Brooks and Dunn. I even met Kenney Chesney and Keith Urban when they first started out. It was all exciting, but after 10 years on the road, I decided to come home to Owensboro, KY. The first thing I did after moving home was start to teach private music lessons.  I then added group lessons, Bluegrass In the Schools, assemblies, songwriting and recording, and more.

Through the last 20+ years of teaching, I’ve had several violin students come to take private or group lessons with me, wanting to learn some bluegrass, Celtic, and other types of folk music. I have loved watching them pick up reading tablature within the very first lesson, and picking up the fiddle tunes fast, much faster than students without the classical music background.

Recently, the Bluegrass Music Academy (www.BluegrassMusicAcademy.org) online website was launched by the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame &Museum.  This site teaches bluegrass, country, folk, and Celtic music. This is a great opportunity for students who love both classical and folk style music to pick up the skills to learn bluegrass music. l encourage them to try our website, free for the first 14 days.

The site offers videos that explain how to read tablature in a very simple way. As I teach each song, I walk through one line at a time, ensuring you get that line and part down before putting the whole song together. The website also includes audio tracks to listen to and play along with the songs you are learning. Both the video and the audio track can be slowed down for easier learning.

Currently there are 22 songs on fiddle alone and more being added monthly. Also you will get to see rare and exclusive video footage from ROMP festival workshops, tips from world class bluegrass artists, and access to not only fiddle, but mandolin and guitar lessons as well.

We live in the Bluegrass Music Capital of the World, and I’m proud of that, because that’s who I am and where I come from, a family tradition you might say. I want to encourage you to try it out!

The first two weeks are free to try, and after that only $25 per month for full access. For all classical violin students, we will give a 10%ongoing discount by using the code VIOLIN10 at checkout.

We hope you will consider trying it out! Happy fiddling!
