Chapel Announcement

Hello everyone – I would like to provide you with an update on our chapel project. What began as a desire to renovate our current chapel, turned into a desire to relocate our chapel to the small gym.

Recently, a deadline of February 29th was set, to raise the needed funding to relocate the Chapel to the small gym. It was determined we needed to raise an additional million dollars to move forward. When this word got back to some very dedicated Owensboro Catholic families that I had shared the project with…they had fallen in love with the idea of the new location and stepped forward and asked if they could help raise the million dollars needed – we had ONE month!

The group recommended I reach out to talented artist and OC alumna, Jessica Mills McKinley, from the class of 2003, to create a new rendering of the chapel, and we needed it fast! Jessica agreed and asked us to please pray to Saint Catherine of Bologna, the patron saint of artists. Jessica drew the rendering in 7 hours and created an absolutely beautiful rendering of the Chapel.

I then asked for assistance from our talented Peddler staff to create a video that would tell a story about this project that we could share on social media and share with our community, and THEY did a phenomenal job!

Our committee went to work! On top of handing out packets of chapel information to 100s of our constituents this parent group met and prayed! We entrusted this Chapel Project to the Blessed Mother with a nine-day Novena to Our Lady of Guadalupe.

This group of parents ended February with a nine-day Novena to St Gabriel, Our Lady of Sorrows. St. Gabriel is a Passionist saint and is the patron saint of students. I am so excited to share with you WE MET OUR GOAL ON HIS FEAST DAY, Feb 27th. A TRUE MIRACLE WAS GRANTED!

God made our goal possible. What this means is we have raised enough funds to relocate our chapel to our front door in the small gym space. It is truly a miracle of God this team was able to achieve this in a month. It was the inspiration of the new chapel rendering, and the video as to why donors contributed.

Students, you did it! YOU ALL ARE THE ONES THAT DID THIS! The Grace from your faithfulness is what is making this project possible!! Your morning Adoration, weekly Confession time, participation in the school masses and your parishes is a witness to our entire community.

Our next steps are to secure the specs we need from our architect to put the project out for bid. This will take some time, but we are going to put our best effort forward to move the project along as quickly as we can while taking care of our students who use the small gym space. Fundraising cannot stop. We know with construction, there are always unforeseeable issues – especially in an old building like ours AND we want our chapel to be beautiful. Fundraising continues. Please keep praying for the project’s success. We will keep you updated on the progress.

As you live the Gospel, and practice it more and more, you become a light for others and evangelizers of our Catholic faith. And that is what the Lord calls us to do.

There was a core group that worked and prayed with expectant faith, and God granted our school a true miracle!

Thank you to everyone!
