Theology Teachers: Owensboro Catholic Middle School

Owensboro Catholic Schools is seeking two applicants for Theology teachers at OCMS for the 2020-2021 school year. The candidates must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church who is joyfully faithful to the Church’s tradition and teaching. The ideal candidates would hold a degree in Theology or Catechetics and have a passion for teaching adolescents. More specific job functions and a calendar of events are available on request.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Strive to achieve the goals of Catholic education by
    • Upholding the doctrinal teachings of the Catholic Church
    • Promoting and living the Gospel values and Catholic moral teaching
    • Establishing an atmosphere where students can encounter the living Christ and deepen their relationship with God
    • Forming students to have true freedom
  • Work on or assist with the coordination of spiritual retreats, prayer services, priest visits and various seasonal liturgies
  • Stay up to date on current issues in the Diocese of Owensboro and the Catholic Church
  • Chair/Co-chair an extra-curricular club or student organization
  • Use best practices to provide effective instruction and positive, consistent classroom management.
  • Communicate with students, parents, and other stakeholders in a professional and positive manner
  • Function as a cooperative, productive team member at OCMS
  • Support and uphold the philosophy and mission of the Catholic Church and the Owensboro Catholic School System.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Have a passion for teaching adolescents
  • Be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
  • Hold a degree in Theology, Catechetics or related field

The candidate must be:

  • able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
  • self-motivated and self-directed with precise attention to detail
  • goal-oriented, organized team player with positive attitude

Health and PE 

Owensboro Catholic Schools is seeking applicants for a full-time Health and PE teacher at OCHS. The ideal candidate would be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church who has Bachelor’s Degree in Health or a similar field and has a passion for teaching adolescents. Education, Training, Abilities and Experience:

· Bachelor’s Degree in Health or similar field
· Valid Teacher’s Certificate (Preferred)
· Effective communication skills (oral and written)
· The ability to successfully complete a criminal history and background check

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

· Execute the subject matter knowledge requirements specific for Health and Physical Education levels 9 – 12.
· Ensure that all lessons are delivered in line with the departmental schemes of work and school policies.
· Encourage students to be actively engaged in their own learning and review their progress against targets.
· Keep accurate records of student progress in line with departmental and school policy.
· Know students by name and maintain a positive atmosphere in the classroom. Deal with inappropriate behavior quickly and effectively according to school policy.
· Keep work areas tidy and organized to promote safety in the gyms/fields and weightrooms.
· Attend scheduled meetings in the school.
· Work with to formulate plans which have coherence and relevance to the needs of the individual students and to the objectives of OCHS.
· Ensure that all work in the Physical Education Department reflects the distinctive ethos of OCHS.
· Act as a positive role model and promote the values of the school and uphold the rules and policies.
· Ensure effective communication and consultation with parents and students.
· Chair/Co-chair an extra-curricular club or student organization

Temporary Long Term Substitute Teacher

Owensboro Catholic Schools is looking for a Long Term Substitute Teacher for the 6th grade teaching Language Arts. Position will start at the end of March 2020. This is a non-contracted position and work availability varies based on need.

Position Summary: Provide continuation of instruction and management of students in absence of the regular teacher.

Required:

·         Completion of 64 college credit hours and an official transcript for validation

·         Classroom Management Skills

·         Successfully complete a criminal history and background check

Preferred:

·         Be a retired teacher

·         Hold teaching certification or a Statement of Eligibility

·         Be a Teacher in Training. To qualify in the category, candidates must meet one of the following criteria

·         Be enrolled in a teacher education program and have completed 64 credit hours with a minimum GPA of 2.5, or hold a Bachelor’s degree and have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours toward a Master’s degree in Education

·         Be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

·         Provide effective continuation of instruction based on lesson plans and/or instructions provided by the regular teacher

·         Effectively communicate assignments and instructions to students and provide assistance

·         Follow all safety and emergency procedures established by the school

·         Supervision of students using proper classroom management techniques

·         Provide detailed notes and feedback to the regular teacher

Job Type: Temporary

Salary: $100.00 / day

Owensboro Catholic Schools – Substitute Teachers

Owensboro Catholic Schools is looking for Substitute Teachers. Substitutes may work at the K-3 Campus, 4-6 Campus, Middle School and High School. This is a non-contracted position and work availability varies based on need.

OCMS Girls Basketball Coach Needed

OCMS is looking to hire a 7th grade girls basketball coach. This person should have knowledge of basketball and experience in working with middle school age students. This person should be at least 21 years of age and able to complete safe environment and background checks.
