A Message from OCHS Principal, George Powell

Dear OCHS parents and students,

Together with our teachers, staff, and administration, I want to welcome our students and school community back to Owensboro Catholic High School.   I hope all of our families had a fun summer where great experiences occurred, and lasting memories made.  OCHS is ready to welcome our students back to engage in meaningful learning experiences and continue to develop our faith.  Our dedicated teachers have been working during the summer planning and getting ready.  I am confident that together we will have an outstanding 2023-24 school year!

This will be my first year as principal of OCHS and I have spent this summer working to get to know the school and the people that make it such a great place.  This school year will be my 28th year as an educator.  I have been a middle and high school social studies and English teacher, a high school assistant principal, middle school principal and district-level administrator over that time.  I am married to the former Amanda Hayden (OCHS Class of 98) and we have five children, Mayme (10th grade, OCHS), Andrew (8th grade, OCMS), Hattie Jane (6th grade, OCES 4-6), Polly (4th grade, OCES 4-6) and Georgia (1st grade, Foust Elementary).

I look forward to the start of the new school year and collaborating with you to provide your children with an effective and engaging educational and faith-forming experience. We will always put the best interests of our students at the center of our purpose. I invite you to join us on this year’s journey and stay engaged and connected with all things related to OCHS. Our school will be stronger with the support of its community.

Freshman Orientation will be on Tuesday, August 1st from 9:00 am-noon at OHCS.  From 1:00-3:00 pm that day we will have “Catch Up in the Courtyard/Meet the New Principal” for all returning students.  We will have food and many other things set up that day that you will not want to miss. The first day of school for students will be Wednesday, August 9th.

I cannot express how honored and excited I am to be a part of the Owensboro Catholic Schools community.  I look forward to meeting you and working with you this year.

God Bless-

George Powell
