Other Ways to Give

At Owensboro Catholic Schools, academic excellence is a top priority. The cost of challenging each student to reach their potential based on Catholic values that inspire leadership in faith and action exceeds tuition every year. The main way OCS keeps tuition at its current level is through fundraising.

Owensboro Catholic Schools is a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization. Your generous monetary gift is tax deductible.

Financial Generosity Can Take on Many Forms

Cash

The most common method of making a gift is to contribute cash. You may benefit from such gifts with a charitable deduction on your tax return.

Securities

Stocks, bonds, or mutual fund shares that have appreciated
can have an immediate impact and also create an income tax deduction for
you based on their current value. Because there is no capital gains tax when
you make a charitable gift, you receive an additional tax benefit above and
beyond the charitable gift donation.

Life Insurance

You may donate by making OCHS the owner and beneficiary of your insurance policy.

Planned Gifts

Planned giving is the process of carefully selecting the
best method and asset for making a charitable gift. Such a gift can enable
you to take full advantage of the tax laws to accomplish your financial and
charitable goals. Planned gifts may be made in the following ways:

  • Bequests by wills or living trust
  • Charitable Remainder Trusts
  • Charitable Gift Annuities
  • Charitable Lead Trusts
  • Beneficiary benefits from IRA’s, pensions, or financial accounts

Matching

Many companies will match charitable gifts made by their employees with a 1:1 or sometimes a 2:1 match. Check with your Human Resources department, you may be surprised to learn that your company also provides this benefit. Some employers even continue to match gifts from retirees. These matching corporate funds allow Owensboro Catholic to provide tuition assistance to even more young women and men.

Just a reminder that the IRS allows an IRA owner age 70 ½ or over the
ability to transfer money to OCS tax free. These transfers, known as
qualified charitable distributions or QCDs, offer taxpayers a great way
to donate. This distribution from your IRA will not be included in your
federal taxable income if you meet all the criteria. Please consult with
your tax advisor and/or your IRA trustee.
