The Owensboro Catholic School system will continue to follow the original plan to wear masks through Labor Day.
Several schools in adjoining areas that opened unmasked were forced to close because of the number of transmissions that occurred at school, and health care facilities were soon overwhelmed. While inpatient numbers have steadily gone up locally, ventilator and ICU capacity numbers for Region 2 have remained steady. The incidences of serious illness in children are still rare, but the impact on healthcare systems happens very quickly when transmissions are not controlled.
OCS continues to consult with and follow the guidance of local physicians and health care officials who are monitoring the data.
