Ambere Barnett Invited to National Camp

Owensboro Catholic’s Soccer standout, Ambere Barnett, has been invited to an upcoming training camp for for the U.S. Under 19 Women’s National Team by Coach Jitka Klimkova, U.S. Soccer has announced.  The junior midfielder, who also competes for St. Louis Scott Gallagher Soccer Club – Illinois, is one of 26 players who will travel to Sunrise, FL., for the camp starting on March 25th.  Former Owensboro Catholic girl’s coach Durand Engineer, who coached Barnett for the last three seasons, called the invitation a result of years of dedication and passion.

“This is something special,” he said on Tuesday.  “Not many kids get a chance to get called up.  There are tons and tons of quality athletes and kids that play, but very few get an opportunity like this.  It’s not by accident either.  I think it’s because of her true ability, but also her hard work over the years.  Her passion and drive to succeed, and her love for the sport, is what keeps that fire burning inside.”

Owensboro Catholic Schools joins Coach Durrand in applauding you Ambere and agree, “we’re so fortunate that we’ve been able to witness a kid like this – that comes by once in a generation – go through our school system.”  Congratulations, we know you will shine!
