All four OCS Sites will be working together this year on a Service Project for Lent.
Instead of thinking of what we can GIVE UP for Lent, we want to focus on what we can GIVE!
In our state of Kentucky, there are currently almost 7,000 children living in foster care. When children enter foster care, it is common for them to be given a trash bag in which to bag up their belongings to take with them to their new homes.
Each OCS site will be taking up items to put together care bags for these children, so that when they find themselves in this difficult situation, they will be given their own special bag of items put together with love by OCS students.
Below is a list of items that we are asking ALL OCS students to bring in by grade level or site:
Duffle bag or backpack—any kind of bag that zips
Toothbrush and toothpaste
4-6 Campus Students:
5th and 6th Grade: hairbrush and shampoo/body wash
4th Grade: small flashlight
2nd and 3rd Grade: coloring books and box of crayons
K and 1st Grade: stuffed animal or doll
All items must be dropped off at their respective schools by March 31, 2017 (the Friday before Spring Break). Upon returning from Spring Break, all items will be taken to the middle school, where student volunteers will work together to stuff the bags. These will then be delivered to local foster care agencies the week after Easter so that our local children in foster care can benefit from them.
