Elementary K-3 Campus Newsletter

August 2010

Welcome to the New School Year

ocsThank you for choosing to send your child to the Owensboro Catholic K-3 Campus! We are looking forward to a new year full of endless possibili-ties. Teachers do take a little bit of the summer “off”, but they also spend time looking for new ideas, rearranging and planning for their class-room and attending summer Professional Devel-opment on a variety of topics. An overview of the training topics we’ve had this summer are: Dif-ferentiation, Technology, Dyslexia, ADHD, and Effective Teaching Practices. Everyone at the K-3 Campus is “geared up” and ready to meet the needs of your individual child.
Our #1 Goal is to help your child feel successful and be successful in school.

oKeeping Parents Informed

At the beginning of each week, and as announcements and reminders are needed, the K-3 Campus will send out electronic e-mail with important information.
If you are not currently receiving this, we encourage you to sign up at:
owensborocatholic.org
Simply click on Newsletters at the top. From there you can sign up for Electronic Newsletters from any school site, as well as from our Central Office.
If you don’t have email or internet access, don’t worry– your child’s teacher will send home a Classroom Newsletter at the beginning of each week, and you will receive a Monthly Newsletter from the School at the end of each month.

0August Dates
August 19– 9:00– Opening Mass at Our Lady Of Lourdes - Please note that we have Mass every Thursday at 9:00 and love for parents and family members to join us!

August 19– 6:00– Curriculum Night This is an opportunity for parents to find about the curriculum, classroom routines, homework policies, and talk to the teacher. Curriculum Night is for parents, so please make other arrangements for your children.

August 27– FREE DRESS DAY The last Friday of each month is a Free Dress Day. Students may wear regular clothes that would be appropriate for school. Students may NOT wear flip flops or sandals.

August 30- Sweatshirt Orders Due These are the only sweatshirts children may wear with their school uniform.

oMorning Drop Off
Everything is going smoothly and the students are quickly picking right up on what to do. Just a reminder: Cars CAN go around busses parked at the end of the building- even if the STOP sign is out. Car Riders must let children out anywhere from the front door to the end of the building if traffic is backing up. Staff members will be there to supervise. Students may enter the front door OR the side cafeteria door. Students who arrive before 7:30 will be directed to the cafeteria. Breakfast is served until 7:35.

Afternoon Dismissal
Students are dismissed at 2:30. Please be in the parking lot before 2:30, as all traffic into the lot is stopped once students are exiting the building. In the afternoon, parents picking their child up, must get out of the car and walk up to the front of the building, so that children will easily find their ride. Children are NOT allowed to walk beyond the first row in the parking lot. For parents parking on Time Drive– you must come and get your child. Children are NOT allowed to walk over to Time Drive without a parent.

NO PETS are allowed in the parking lot during afternoon pick up. If you have a dog that rides with you to pick your child up– please leave the dog in the car.

oSCHOOL PICTURE DAY is already scheduled for September 14! It is a FREE DRESS Day and students are encouraged to wear bright, colorful clothing!

Students are given Holy Cards of the Saints throughout the year. Our goal is that every child will have their own Holy Card Collection of 40-50 Cards by the time they leave the K-3 Cam-pus! We also start each morning with prayer and a short story about the Saint of the Day.

Our School Guidelines for Success spell CHRIST: Cooperate with everyone; Have responsible actions; Respect Others; Imitate Christ in all things; Show a positive attitude; Try your best

oIn your registration packet was a PTO Volunteer Form. If you would like to volunteer, please fill out the form and return it to school as soon as possible. Parents and Teachers are partners in making sure that our school is #1! The K-3 Campus and 4-6 Campus have a joint PTO. The first PTO meeting of the year is September 22 at the 4-6 Campus.
We need parent volunteers for the cafeteria immediately. If you can volunteer in the cafeteria, please contact Mrs. Gray in the school office.

EVERY FRIDAY is “Faith in Education” Spirit Shirt Day! On Friday’s students may wear their green “Faith in Education” t-shirt to school with uniform pants or shorts. New shirts are being designed and will be given to students soon.

oPlease check your child’s backpack every day for important information and/or homework assignments. Classroom Newsletters will have important information and dates listed, so please post it in a prominent place at home, so that you can refer to it as needed.
