Elementary K-3 Campus Newsletter

OCSMorning Drop Off

Unless parents have to be at work early, we ask you not to drop your child off at the K-3 Campus before 7:15 AM. Breakfast is served until 7:40 each day, so students dropped off by 7:30 will still be able to eat breakfast.

OCSPrayers for Priests

The K-3 Campus is committed to supporting our priests with prayers. We will participate in the Saint Padre Pio Pray for Priests program. The children were given prayer cards with a special prayer for priests. Each classroom will have a special Prayer Container and every time that the class or an individual student or their family prays for our priests, the children will get to drop a token into the container to represent their “prayer”. The main idea is to teach children the importance of praying for our priests. Parents can help by praying for our priests and religious at home.  We hope this commitment to pray for priests will become a “habit” that lasts a life time!

OCSHappy Birthday this week to: John David Marshall, Max Byrne, Brooklynn Reynolds, Maggie Hayden, Kevin Ralph, Nolan Lowe, Jill Castlen, Derek Osborne, and Alli Thompson.

OCSThank you to Fr. John Meredith for celebrating Mass with us on the Feast of the Annunciation. Thank you to all of our parent volunteers who helped at the Parent Workshop on Thursday! Thank you Angela Graviss, mother of Matthew, and Jennifer Riney, mother of Hayden and Andrew for the Holy Card donation.

OCSWhat are “Guidelines for Success”? Research shows that all children can be successful when they know and are taught what is expected of them. Many times we assume children know what we expect, when in fact we haven’t spent the time needed teaching them our expectations. This applies both in the school setting and at home. Go into any classroom or the hallway at the K-3 Campus and you will see Guidelines for Success developed by our teachers using the acronym CHRIST.

Cooperate with everyone

Have responsible actions

Respect others

Imitate Christ in all things

Show a positive attitude

Try your best

Guidelines for SUCCESS

Please, go over these Guidelines with your child and ask him how he can demonstrate these in various classroom settings.

Along with these “Guidelines for Success”, the teachers also use CHAMPS charts to show the children what behaviors are expected, depending on the activity going on in the classroom.

C=Conversation

H=Help

A=Activity

M=Movement

P=Participation

Using a set of pictures, teachers indicate to the students expected behaviors for whole group, individual, or cooperative activities. Many of the teachers have posters in the classroom. More information on the Guidelines for Success and the CHAMPs Charts will be coming home soon. Ask your child to tell you how it is used in his or her classroom.
