Elementary 4-6 Campus Newsletter

March 2010

oOffice News
 Please see the calendar of events for March.
 The Accelerated Reading Skating field trip permission slip is attached. AR deadline for the 3rd Quarter is March 9th.
 The Owensboro Symphony Orchestra will visit our school on Friday, March 5th, to present “March Mallet Madness.” The students will have a blast seeing the percussion players work up a sweat on their way to musical victory. The cost is $3.00 per student. Please send the money with your child in an envelope marked “March Mallet Madness.”
 We are noticing an increase in the number of students’ morning tardies. If your child is tardy you might need to look at your schedule and make adjustments to ensure he/she arrives at school by the 7:45 starting time.
 Just a reminder that school is dismissed at 2:15. We are not able to provide supervision after this time, so is very essential for your child’s safety that he/she be picked up on time.

Lenten Collection “Zap the Penny”
As you know during Lent we continue collecting money for Connie, to help pay for her school tuition and living expenses. The students will be bringing in their loose change for the “Zap the Penny” contest. Explanations went home with the students on Friday, February 12th. The students may bring in their money until Thursday, April 1st.

oHaiti Collection
In January, the students were asked to bring in $1.00 to help the Haitian people after the earthquake. We are happy to say that the Elementary 4-6 Campus collected $1,200.00 for this worthy cause. All of the schools in the Diocese collected money and jointly collected over $15,000.00.

The 4-6 Campus was treated to a great Bluegrass Concert on January 14 by Valarie Smith and Liberty Pike. The concert is offered to area elementary schools through the Bluegrass in the Schools program with the International Bluegrass Museum. Bluegrass in the Schools is sponsored this year by the Michael E. Horn Family Foundation, Lester E. Yeager Charitable Trust, Kentucky Arts Council and the John E’Addario Foundation for the Performing Arts. Students wrote essays about Catholic Schools and what they enjoy at school.

o During Catholic Schools Week the students participated in many activities throughout the week in celebration of our school. On Student Appreciation Day the students were treated to an afternoon of relays and student names were drawn each hour to receive prizes.
