Director's Message

March 2007

Dear OCS Family:

During the recent Catholic Schools Week, we took the opportunity to celebrate our Catholic identity.  Along with all of our brother and sister Catholic schools across this fine nation, we share in and live the mission of the Church.  We thank God for allowing us the honor of working everyday with His special ones, the children.  Our legacy, truly His legacy, is shaped daily in an environment where Jesus and the love He freely shares are the guiding lights.

For the second year in a row, I approached the microphone at the beginning of the all OCS Mass at the SportsCenter with my heart in my mouth.  Our Faith in Education jingle had just begun over the speaker system.  The students stopped talking when they heard it and begun to sing.  Many were clapping.  I looked out at our students and watched and listened with amazement and joy.  God reached out and touched my heart.  He used that moment to remind me of His call and His promise to be present with us when we gathered in His name.  We were gathered in His name as the OCS family and He obviously claimed us as His own.  What a special beginning to a wonderful Mass.  Thanks to all who participated, especially our students.

As you know, we are blessed to have so much support from Bishop John McRaith and our Pastors.  That support was so evident at the Mass.  Please join me in saying thanks to them for all they do make Owensboro Catholic Schools a true and vibrant example of God’s work in Owensboro and Daviess County.

The 2006-2007 academic year seems to be flying by.  It is hard to believe that shortly we will close out the 3rd quarter.  Our students have been working hard both inside and outside the classroom.  Their many accomplishments and achievements are chronicled in this Quarterly.  Congratulations!  Special thanks to our faculty, administration, coaches, and activity moderators who give of their time and talent so willingly to challenge their students to stretch and grow.

We are at the time of the year where we begin to look to the future.  Pre-Registration for 2007-2008 will occur from March 19th to 23rd.  Be sure to complete the pre-registration form and return it with the $50 deposit to a school site or the central office.  Those who have applied for tuition assistance prior to the February 15th deadline will receive an award letter prior to the pre-registration.  Please note that OCS is committed to meeting all calculated financial need for students in our parishes.  We want to provide a quality Catholic education at an affordable cost.

Please excuse my excitement.  I am convinced everyday that our future is incredibly bright.  We look to God constantly for the guidance of the Holy Spirit.  As a school family, we affirm daily that Jesus is the reason we exist.
